Finding My Medicated Cause

Charmeine

I started having severe weakness throughout my body in mid-June. Over the next 5 months, I had been to many hospitals many times, and they ran just about every test possible to figure out what was wrong. Because they couldn’t find anything, they claimed it must be Conversion Disorder, and left it at that. Unlike many CD cases, however, we could not link the weakness to any kind of psychiatric distress. It was a complete mystery of why this would happen to me.

Things were never progressing whatsoever and psychotherapy was doing absolutely nothing. Eventually, we decided to go off of Prozac, and before long, I was back to walking. We did some thinking, and we found that Prozac has about a 3-6 week span for it to start taking effect, as well as wearing off. After 3 weeks of taking the medicine, the weakness began. about 4 weeks ago increasing the dose, I got significantly worse. Now, after about 3 weeks of being off the medicine, my ability to walk has come back!

We, as well as my primary care physician, believe that this whole thing was just a very severe reaction to the medicine the entire time.

Hope this helps.
